Opsis
Measuring the air with light

The idea of measuring gases with light may sound peculiar to laymen, but it is based on this that Opsis has successfully entered the market of solutions for air quality monitoring. The company was founded in 1985 by two Ph.D. students from the University of Lund, Svante Wallin and Leif Unéus, who took the concept of measuring gases with light and developed it into a commercially viable product.

Today there are more than 800 sites around the world using Opsis’ system and the company has become a leading supplier in the area. Headquartered in Malmö, Opsis offers a system that, among other advantages, does not use samples, has a high level of accuracy and stability and requires minimal maintenance.

The Opsis system measures gases by the DOAS (Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy) technology. The system involves specific gases absorbing light from parts of the spectrum of light. The absorption is recorded by using a computer-controlled spectrometer that also registers results for immediate display or future analysis.
