Siemens opens Scandinavian RFID centre in Copenhagen The new competence centre will work within concept development and provide support and advice concerning RFID (radio frequency identification).
(Wireless)
The centre will be located in Ballerup, Greater Copenhagen, and
will draw from Siemens Business Services’ international experience.
Among other projects, Siemens Business Services (SBS) has been
involved in the development of the Future Store, a project carried
out by the German supermarket Metro, and collaborated with the
German research centre Fraunhofer IFF. Both Metro and Fraunhofer
have been investigating applications for RFID technologies.
RFID is a means of identifying a person or object using a radio
frequency transmission, typically 125kHz, 13.56 MHz or 800-900MHz.
The technology is believed to replace current bar code
identification systems.
