Ericsson Mobile Platforms, headquartered in Lund, has taken an early lead in WCDMA with a market share of more than 30 percent of the number of shipped handset units in 2004.
Six of the top handset manufacturers in the world have license agreements with Ericsson Mobile Platforms for WCDMA, which is the dominating 3G technology.
"Handset manufactures and operators appreciate our platforms' stability, interoperability and performance," said Sandeep Chennakeshu, president of Ericsson Mobile Platforms.
"Our platform architecture is unique as it allows handset manufacturers to develop applications for one platform and reuse the applications across the portfolio of platforms from us. This reduces development cost and time to market for manufacturers," he added.
