TDC expanding in Sweden – and Iceland?
The Danish telecom company TDC is looking to expand and is set to buy the Swedish communication consultants Dotcom solutions. Other reports are also saying that TDC is part of the race to buy Islands Telecom.

The sellers, TietoEnator and 3i Group, each own 48 percent of Dotcom Solutions while the last few percent are owned by the staff at Dotcom. TDC has placed a bid on these shares as well. The deal is said to be worth 242 million Danish crowns (approximately 40 million US dollars).

One explanation to the deal is that TDC recently bought Song that is affiliated with Dotcom solutions since 2003.

- The affiliate deal with Song has played a part, but the decisive factor concerning why TDC has chosen to buy Dotcom is our direction and position in the market, says Kjell Westerback, head of marketing and information at Dotcom to the newsletter Rapidus.

But the expansion doesn’t end there. TDC is also reported to be a potential buyer of the Icelandic telecommunication company Islands Telecom. The sellers, Morgan Stanley, say that there is a large interest from both Icelandic and international investors.

TDC has previously had interests in the company. In 2001 the Icelandic government was planning to sell a considerable part of Islands Telecom to TDC but the negotiations stranded concerning the price.

Despite TDC´s previous engagements, local Icelandic investors are most likely to become Islands Telecoms new owners, according to the news agency Reuters.

The deal is estimated to be worth about 5 billion Danish crowns (approximately 836 million US dollars).
