The ranking is based on the country's usage of IT, as well as the country's competence within the IT-sector. The combination of technical availability together with the possibilities and knowledge to use the technology are two of the main factors that are considered. All in all, over a hundred criteria are checked andresult in the country’s final ranking. In 2005 the top three were Denmark, USA and Sweden.
- Denmark, that has strengthened its position as number one, has introduced several electronic services for citizens, Annika Viklund at IBM Sweden told the magazine NyTeknik.
- Among other things, Denmark has introduced a health portal where both private and state owned actors in the health sector, employees and patients, can acquire information and identify themselves with a digital signature, Viklund added.
In total Denmark finished 0.01 points before USA and 0.1 before Sweden.
