Copenhagen soon wireless with Wimax A significant investment by American Clearwire will ensure that Copenhagen and other major Danish cities will get broadband access through Wimax, the new wireless standard, this year.

Last week Clearwire invested approximately 100 million Danish crowns in Danske Telecom. The companies have been preparing a partnership since Danske Telecom got their Wimax-licence last year. The capital will secure the company's plans to install Wimax access points in Copenhagen, Århus and Odense before the end of 2005. The exact sum of the investment is not entirely clear though:
- I can only say that we have got enough [money] to go through with our Wimax plans, says Peter Jerry, administrative director of Danske Telecom to Comon.dk.
The first stage will guarantee a connection speed between 512 Kbit/s and 4 Mbit/s and will feature fully functional IP-telephony.
Wimax is an acronym that stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access and also goes by the name IEEE 802.16.
