The Øresund region is showing strong signs of recovery after a few years of worldwide recession in the IT and telecom sector. This time around, it is the telecom industry that is leading the way:
- I think everyone agrees that it is the telecom sector with the development companies Ericsson Mobile Platform and Sony Ericsson that are the engine in the strong growth, says Anders Nilsson, CEO of Know IT to Computer Sweden.
Also, larger companies in other areas of business are increasing their need for IT services. Companies such as Astra Zeneca and Ikea are both good examples of this development.
- We have definitely noticed an increased demand of services from the industry companies. At the same time, the buyers have become more skilful as negotiators and more aware of what services they actually want, says Håkan Paulsson, CEO of Multicom.
Another reason to the optimism in Øresund is an increase in trade between Denmark and Sweden. Today 29 per cent of all people that cross the Øresund Bridge are doing it for business. And recruiting over the country borders is getting more and more popular.
Access to top students and consultants from both countries is one of the largest arguments for companies to settle in the region.
- We will recruit both Danes and Swedes to our Copenhagen office, says Mats Allers, CEO of Cybercom.
Cybercom is one of the companies that have expanded rapidly and plan to continue doing so on both sides of Øresund. After acquiring Consafe they have approximately 150 employees in the region.
All in all, the Øresund region has 12 000 companies that employs approximately 100 000 people within the IT and telecom industry. And the future is looking bright.
