Swedish software turns text into animation
A group of scientists from Lunds Institute of Technology are developing software that interprets text and converts it to animations of different kinds. Their results were recently published in the journal New Scientist.

- The research projects goal is to help people and organisations to visualise complex situations in a fast and simple way, said Professor Pierre Nugues in a press release.

- The system is completely new and there is no equivalent in the world. It will be a challenge to se how "intelligent" the system can become, continued Pierre Nugues.

The software is called Carsim and is currently being tested with real life examples from car accidents. The software can handle time indications such as "before" or "afterwards" and the next challenge is to convert a story into a chronological order. This is extra important considering that most statements made about car accidents are said in an order that reflects how important the event was, not in a correct time order.

Further ahead, the technology can be used in many different ways.
- It could be used in games, or for making animated bed time stories for example, said Pierre Nugues.
