At lunchtime on Monday the 24 of October Denmark’s first wireless broadband net with Wimax technology was opened.

Former minister of foreign affairs Uffe Ellemann-Jensen met the press in Copenhagen to cut the ribbon and declare the opening official. The "ribbon" this time was a copper cable, symbolising the competitor’s way of distributing broadband to their customers.

At the launch, 500 000 households in three cities were within reach of the new net. Copenhagen, Århus and Odense are the first three cities to get connected with the new technology.

Wimax is an acronym that stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access and also goes by the name IEEE 802.16.
