Danish poker site sold for over 100 million
British company Betfair has bought Aglet Technologies from Copenhagen for over 100 million Danish crowns. The deal includes the famous poker site PokerChamps.com.
(Business)

PokerChamps.com was founded by several poker players, with Danish poker professional Gus Hansen as the most renown player among them. Aglet Technologies has developed the entire technical platform of the site. A brave move at the time - Aglet dropped customers like the Danish national television (DR) in order to produce it.

- In May of 2003 we began to see that poker was about to become hot, and we started to develop en entirely new poker system. We programmed the system almost like a computer game, says managing director Kevin Mikkelsen to Computerworld.

Aglet technologies will change their name to Betfair Development and will develop other products within the gambling and gaming sector. As Betfair offers their customers the opportunity to become stake-holders themselves, there are many possible ways to develop their product portfolio:

- It could be backgammon or more computer-like games for example, as long as they can be played for money, says Kevin Mikkelsen.
