Ericsson has developed a technology where live TV is broadcast over 3G and Edge- networks, and this is where Tactel plays a significant part. Ericsson has developed the server software for the operators’ networks whereas Tactel has developed the software for the client, in this case the mobile phone.
It has been a technical challenge to enable channel changes in real time. “We made it, and Ericsson is pleased. Our Java client Frost makes is just as easy to change channels as an ordinary TV-remote control,” says Tactel’s CEO Per Henriksson to NyTeknik.
Tactels Java application Frost enables both fast channel changes and interactive TV. “For example, you can easily click on a link and be redirected to web page if encouraged to do so in a TV show,” continues Per Henriksson.
