Briefly stated, the solution called the Guardia Control System generates an accurate lifelike 3D copy of the human head.
An ordinary 2D photo is a flat image. Guardia Control System uses 3D technology to record a face with additional information about depth using stereo cameras.
Guardia Control System has taken the technology a step further by using an infrared camera that records the temperature pattern of the face. The temperature varies over time, but the heat pattern of the face remains the same making it possible to use thermal images to identify people.
Screening for diseases like SARS or avian influenza can also be done with the terminal images from Guardia Control System.
The template size of these accurate biometric identifiers is 1-2 KB, making them ideal for chip and RFID-solutions. The Guardia Control System can be used in border controls, passports, visas and various access control solutions.
The European IST Prize is an award for groundbreaking products that represent the best of European innovation in information society technology. The award is granted by the European Commission.
