A customer survey showed, for the third time in a row, that people seldom felt motivated by traditional e-learning.
“It was TDC Mobile that came up with the idea of a car racing game with pit stops where questions were to be answered,” says Søren Sander, CEO at IMS, to Computerworld.
Danish IMS developed the e-learning game PowerRacer for TDC Mobil. The game was then used to educated TDC Mobil’s workforce in 3G-technology.
PowerRacer has no elaborate graphics; it resembles the arcade games of the 80-ties. Instead, it is the chance of beating your colleagues that motivates people. And the game can be played in teams, one department against another.
“A secondary effect is knowledge-sharing. When competing amongst departments, we see people helping one another with the right answers. They might feel they are cheating when helping, but in reality it’s a good thing since they are sharing knowledge,” continues Søren.
The game PowerRacer is becoming a standard module in e-learning software from IMS and the company is already selling more of its software.
