To use the internet as their primary sales channel has proven to be a successful concept for Danish computer manufacturer Zepto and customers happily configure their computers on-line. Keeping a thigh regime on costs, and designing a built-to-order production process, has also paved the way.

“We have designed the factory such that the warehouse, production and shipment are held together in one process. Even though much is based on Chinese methods, we have had to focus even more on cutting costs to cope with the wage difference between China and Denmark,” says CEO Lasse Frost, Zepto, to Computerworld.

With a surplus of 1 million DKK in August, the company had its best result ever. Being among the first producers to market notebooks with the new Core2 Duo processors has also contributed to the positive result.

Zetop is determined to sustain its growth and an upcoming stock-exchange listing will forgo a European expansion. The new factory and the company head quarters are in Hedehusene, Denmark. Notebooks are also assembled in Vellinge, on the Swedish side of the Sound.
