All 260 cameras have been installed in public areas such as corridors, cafeterias and parking lots with the intent to prevent vandalism in the Middletown City Schools district in Orange County in the State of New York.

The school administration chose Axis network cameras because they were easy to install and maintain, and the existing infrastructure could be used. Power supply via Ethernet also made the cost of installation lower.

“We chose Axis’ network cameras because we could continue to use our existing network equipment, for example the switches installed for our IP-phone system,” says Mike Tuttle, technical manager at Middletown City Schools in a press release.

The need for security surveillance in schools has grown in recent years. As Ray Mauritsson, CEO at Axis Communications, comments: “We have for several years seen a growing interest in installing network video products at schools and collages. Often the infrastructure, for example data networks, is present which means that the installation will be cost effective and easy to carry out.”

Axis Communications is an IT company offering network video solutions for professional installations. It is a Swedish-based company, operating worldwide with offices in 18 countries. For more information about Axis, please visit Axis.com
