“This platform will give both inexpensive and expensive advanced mobiles phones access to high quality video, TV and music”, predicts Jörgen Lantto, technical manager at Ericsson Multimedia, writes Ny Teknik. Soon you will be able to shoot video footage with your mobile phone and get the same high quality footage as an ordinary camera. You will also be able to send the footage to your friends, watch TV in digital-TV format and many more standards for mobile-TV. The new technology has been developed at Ericsson’s mobile technology corporation Ericsson Mobile Platforms head quartered in Lund, Sweden, in the Øresund region.
”In U335 we have succeeded in packaging a lot of multimedia performance normally not found in this kind of a platform. We have developed a solution that is both extremely cost–efficient and small. All other platforms we are familiar with on the market are a compromise. They are either very expensive with high performance or cheaper with much lower performance, “says Jörgen Lantto.
The platform is adapted for hspa or turbo-3g, meaning the user can download or surf at the speed of 7,2 megabit/s. Data is sent at 2,0 megabit/s. U335 differs from Ericsson's previously hspa platforms, which have focused primarily on network access for PC-card products and high-end feature phones, making it the first platform enabling hspa devices for all segments on the market. Products built on the U335 platform are expected to be available in volumes in the second half of 2008.
